Hotel Room Blocks: Part II: Westchester

It is no surprise that most couples hold their guest experience as a top priority when planning their wedding. Surprisingly, many wait too long to figure out accommodations and transportation. Last month’s blog about Hotel Room Blocks included five items to consider when choosing the right hotel(s). Today, let’s go one step further and give you some of my top options in Westchester, NY.

Danielle Caldwell Events has worked with various venues and hotels throughout the years. We are collaborating with several within Westchester this year, including Tappan Hill Mansion, Tarrytown House & Estates, Westchester Country Club, Brae Burn Country Club, and Glen Island Harbour Club. These locations have a vast history, and some provide overnight rooms. Here are my Top Picks for hotels to support these venues.

Top picks for the City of White Plains

The Opus Westchester is a newer luxury hotel within the city itself. It has fabulous restaurants, a pool, a fitness center, a spa, and multiple types of guest rooms. The Opus is within walking distance of the train, shops, and several other restaurants. I had the pleasure of staying at The Opus, and enjoyed it.

Residence Inn by Marriott is another option for those who need something slightly more affordable but still want that city convenience. It has a fitness center and multiple types of guest rooms, as well as a meeting center, laundry, and a kitchen within its suites.

What I love about the two hotels above is that they sometimes offer courtesy blocks, giving you financial freedom and your guests options (upscale and budget-friendly). They are also two blocks from each other, making it super easy for shuttles to do multiple pickups.

Top picks for Tarrytown, NY

Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown is an elevated hotel experience yet a bit easier on the wallet. The hotel is currently under renovation, scheduled to be completed by January 2024, which includes an upgrade to the public spaces. It has its own event spaces, multiple types of rooms, fabulous restaurants, a fitness center, and other amenities. I had the pleasure to stay at the Westchester Marriott a few times and have always enjoyed it.

Sheraton Tarrytown Hotel, right down the street, is known for its upscale Hudson Valley charm. It boasts multiple room types, a restaurant, small event spaces, a Starbucks, an indoor pool, a fitness center, and plenty of parking!

Tarrytown House Estate is a one-of-a-kind Estate built in 1840. In 1964, the property was acquired by Robert Schwarts, who saw the need for a new type of lodging. With encouragement, he created Tarrytown House and invented the nation’s first conference center. The Estate has several types of rooms, hosts meetings, and weddings, and is still the place to be.

Like the White Plains picks, these accommodations are close to each other, making it easy to shuttle your guests to and from the events. In addition, they are a quick 10-20 minute shuttle to multiple venues such as Tappan Hill, Castle Hotel & Spa, Lyndhurst Mansion, and Hudson Loft.

Top picks for White Plains & Rye

Hyatt House White Plains is located outside the city area and approximately 10 minutes from the country clubs. It offers free parking, internet, and breakfast. We recently had a group stay, and they were able to accommodate a welcome event in their H Bar. This hotel is a perfect option for both Westchester Country Club, Brae Burn Country Club, and other local clubs.

Courtyard by Marriott Rye is located 5 minutes away from the Rye train station, and 10 minutes away from Westchester Country Club, as well as others. This hotel has multiple types of guest rooms, free parking, and wifi, as well as a cafe on-site.
